Premier League News: Potter: No talks to cut Zakaria’s loan at Chelsea

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has denied reports that Denis Zakaria’s loan could be cut in January.

Zakaria was signed by previous head coach Thomas Tuchel from Juventus on a season-long loan shortly before the transfer window closed in early September.

The midfielder has yet to make his debut for the London club and has only made one Premier League substitute.

It has been reported that the Swiss international could return to Juventus when the next transfer window opens, but this is news for Potter.

He said: “No decision has been made on this matter at all. Denis was in the group, trained well.

“He is ready to help the team, obviously there is competition for places in this area, but nothing is out of the question.

“He’s an important member of the team, he’s been patient and at the moment he’s trying to help the team from the outside and waiting for his chance.”

Chelsea will make a short trip to the Brentford derby on Wednesday in search of a sixth straight win and a fifth straight clean sheet.

It was a great start for Potter as head coach, with his team finishing fourth in the Premier League and on their way to reaching the Champions League round of 16.

Mason Mount’s brace secured a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday and Potter says he’s puzzled as to why opinions on the English midfielder’s track record are mixed.

He said “It’s a joy [to work with Mount]he is a fantastic person. He loves to play football, loves the local club. It’s amazing that I get some questions that there are some mixed opinions about Mason, I find it strange.

“Especially from the outside, and then when you start working with him you just think he has everything you need to be a top player. He has a great attitude, he understands the space, he connects, he can perform, he helps, he scores goals. He is a top player.”

Potter revealed that Chelsea had no new injuries to deal with ahead of the Bees clash, dispelling fears that Thiago Silva could be sidelined with a hamstring injury.
