Premier League News: Mane scores but Liverpool have two shortened friendlies in Austria

A young Liverpool side drew 1-1 with Wacker Innsbruck in the first 30-minute friendly in Austria, before a stronger Reds side were held on the same score by Stuttgart.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and new signing Ibrahima Konate were included in the lineup for the shortened second friendly against the Bundesliga squad, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip and January signing Ben Davies played for the younger squad against Innsbruck.

Alexander-Arnold returned to the game team for the first time since he suffered a thigh injury on duty in England in June against Austria, which later barred him from the Euro 2020 Three Lions campaign which ended with the broken heart in Italy.

Divock Origi opened the scoring with a penalty in the first game, when the Belgian striker took advantage of a hand ball on a cross from goalkeeper Owen Beck.

But Origi’s penalty was immediately canceled by Ronivaldo’s header behind Loris Karius and this means that they were also honored among Jurgen Klopp’s men and the Austrians.

In the next game against Stuttgart, Philipp Forster made a successful move to give Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men the lead when he overtook Adrian in the first 10 minutes.

Liverpool, however, responded with Mane, who put in a close range shot after Kostas Tsimikas initially hit the end of James Milner’s cross.

And with neither side finding a winner within 30 minutes, the Reds have had to settle for two draws in their two run-outs at their home court in Austria.

Klopp’s side will face Mainz on Friday before friendlies against Hertha Berlin, Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna close pre-season preparations.
