Premier League News: Liverpool striker Nunez is a ‘goal machine’ and very important for the Reds, says Tsimikas

According to teammate Kostas Tsimikas, Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is a “goal machine” and he will only get better as his confidence grows.

Nunes scored his second goal in the last two Premier League matches to lead Liverpool to a 1-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday, bringing Jurgen Klopp’s men within four points of the top four.

The Uruguayan striker has been criticized by some for having a slow start after a big-money move from Benfica, but has now scored five goals for Liverpool in all competitions this season.

This result was improved only by two of his teammates: Mohamed Salah (nine) and Roberto Firmino (eight).

Asked about Nunes’ qualities, Tsimikas said: “He is always there. He can score with his left, right, head – he is a goal machine.

He needs confidence [which] is coming and I hope all the best for him [to] score more and more goals to help the team to give us more wins. He is a very, very important player for us.”

Tsimikas beat the winner Nunez with a clean left flank and has provided five assists in all competitions this season, a feat that only Diogo Jota can achieve among other Liverpool players.

The Greek international was especially pleased to score against Nunez, adding: “This is a very good moment for me. Moreover, it was a cross on Darwin, because I wanted to help him.

Tsimikas, quoted by Liverpool’s website, said: “I’m very, very happy for him because I know he wanted to score too. Obviously he would [want] to score more goals, but hopefully he will keep his energy and his goals for the next games.

“I am very, very happy about it. Every day I work to make crosses better and show better results. So I’m very happy about it.”

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 29 Premier League matches at Anfield (W22 D7) and have scored 100 goals against West Ham in the competition, making the Irons the fourth side they have scored 100 goals against since Newcastle United United, Arsenal and Tottenham.
