Liverpool have condemned a group of Manchester City supporters for singing ‘disgusting’ chants about tragedy in football stadiums during Sunday’s game at Anfield.
The Reds won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah in the second half of an exciting match.
But the meeting left a nasty aftertaste for Liverpool, and during the match, the gloomy songs of some City fans are heard.
Liverpool also allege that the away lobby was defaced with similarly themed graffiti.
“We are deeply disappointed to hear the vile chants related to the football stadium tragedy from the away section during today’s game at Anfield,” the Reds said in a statement.
“The hall in the guest part was also defiled with graffiti of a similar nature.
“We know the impact this behavior has on families, survivors and anyone associated with such disasters.
“We are working with the relevant authorities and we will also be working with Manchester City to do everything possible to ensure that these chants are completely excluded from football.”
