Premier League News: Kante out of World Cup with hamstring injury, Chelsea confirm

Chelsea have confirmed that N’Golo Kante will miss the World Cup in France due to hamstring surgery.

Kante was injured in August in Chelsea’s 2-2 home draw against Tottenham Hotspur and has not played for club or country since.

Chelsea have now established that Kante will play no part in France’s defense of their World Cup crown, starting with their first group match against Australia on 22 November.

A statement on the Chelsea club website said: “N’Golo Kante has undergone surgery for a hamstring injury.

“The midfielder visited a specialist from the club’s medical department to explore options for his rehab approach and it was mutually agreed that N’Golo would undergo surgery to repair the injury.

“Following a successful operation, N’Golo is expected to be suspended for four months.”

Kante was a key player in France’s 2018 World Cup winning team, appearing in all seven games as Les Bleus won the biggest trophy in international football for the second time.

Reece James, Kante’s teammate at Chelsea, is facing a time trial to make the England squad for the tournament after suffering a knee injury against Milan.
