As Ilkay Gundogan’s contract with Manchester City comes to an end at the end of the season, his future remains uncertain.
The German international himself cannot say if he will stay at the Etihad or play elsewhere in 2023/24, and his indication that the future of manager Pep Guardiola is also uncertain seems to indicate a possible connection between two problems. But one thing Gundogan has openly ruled out is leaving the reigning Premier League champions to join his former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Gundogan was brought to Signal Iduna Park by Klopp in 2011 and helped his team win the Bundesliga the following season. The couple worked together for three years before Klopp left the club and joined Liverpool a few months later.
After joining the Etihad in 2016, Gundogan has made 273 appearances for City in all competitions to date, scoring 51 goals and providing 35 assists.
