Premier League News: Arteta: Arsenal didn’t deserve to beat Brighton

Mikel Arteta admitted Arsenal did not deserve to win after the goalless draw with Brighton and Hove Albion in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

The Gunners’ four-game winning streak was stopped by the Seagulls as both teams extended their unbeaten streak to five games in all competitions.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hit the post on the left with a header in the first half and Emile Smith-Rowe came close to scoring in the second half in an otherwise timed Arsenal performance.

Head coach Arteta says the Gunners need to raise the bar after a frustrating display at Amex Stadium.

“I was more concerned about the way we played,” Arteta said at the BBC’s Match of the Day.

“We didn’t make a fair enough decision, every time there was a duel where we could escape the pressure and attack the open spaces we found ourselves short and against this structure we had to do better.

“Aubameyang was probably the only situation open in the first half, and we were unlucky not to score. I don’t think we deserved to win the game, we have to take the draw with the performance we had today and improve. “

However, September brought a change in Arsenal’s fortunes and Arteta was pleased with his team’s response to the poor start to the season.

“We have conceded a goal in the last five games, which is really good,” he continued. “It’s a really positive block of games that has helped us change that.”
