In what could prove to be another action-packed Bundesliga showdown this weekend, Eintracht Frankfurt will face Mainz at Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Eintracht Frankfurt could have picked up a much-needed 3-2 win away to Stuttgart in early May, the Eagles definitely hit the ground last weekend. After putting on a nightmarish spectacle against Hoffenheim last time they were beaten 3-1 at the hands of Hoffenheim, Oliver Glasner’s team showed a number of egregious problems on both sides of the March international break. Having been knocked out of the Champions League after a routine 5-0 draw at the hands of Napoli, the former Wolfsburg boss is feeling a growing pressure on his shoulders. Surprisingly, having won just a couple of their last 15 matches in all competitions – a streak that dates back to February 18 – Frankfurt have also shown a consistent struggle on home soil. In fact, they were last seen at Deutsche Bank Park in a 1-1 draw against Augsburg. Saturday’s hosts have won only one of the last six Bundesliga matches in Hesse.
As for the visitors, while Mainz may still be within reach of reaching European places, they are limping on their way to the finish line. Bo Svensson’s team, last seen in yet another disturbing game after suffering a 3-2 home defeat to Schalke, have won just one win in any of their last five Bundesliga matches. Similarly, having started April 3-0 at Wolfsburg’s hands and now landing six strikes in their straight defeats, the Reds have shown some pretty blatant defensive problems since returning from the March international break. With this series marked by a live 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen on 8 April, neutral players can get another nice showdown in the Bundesliga here.
