Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool winger, has sparked controversy following a recent ‘tweet’ he made on his Twitter account missing out on a Champions League opportunity.
Manchester United robbed Liverpool of their last hope
Mohamed Salah: I am completely devastated!
Liverpool’s Champions League dreams have officially vanished after Manchester United thrashed guest Chelsea 4-1 in a match between them last night on Thursday and was rescheduled from matchday 32 English Premier League.
Mohamed Salah expressed his deep disappointment that his team failed to take one of the four places in the Premier League that qualify for the Champions League next season.
After Salah’s ‘tweet’, calls surfaced on social media urging the Egyptian star to leave for a major UEFA Champions League club even though his contract expires in the summer of 2025.
Among the most prominent of these calls is what prominent Moroccan journalist Ashraf Ben Ayad wrote via his Twitter account: “Mohamed Salah should think about his career and play at Real Madrid or Barcelona. he must go to Liverpool.”
And he continued: “Whoever plays at Barça or Real Madrid, his career is unfinished, frankly, and with all due respect to all English clubs, all the great stars have gone through two opponents, Messi – Maradona – Ronaldo – Cristiano – Zidane – Cruyff.
In addition, some fans expected Salah to start thinking about leaving Liverpool, especially since his performance this season shows that he is capable of giving despite the team’s floundering level.
Notably, 30-year-old Mohamed Salah has made 50 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season, scoring 30 goals and providing 15 assists.
