On Tuesday, the Polish Football Association announced the appointment of Fernando Santos of Portugal as the coach of the national team.
“From today I am a Pole, I am one of you,” the former Portugal coach said at a press conference in Warsaw. “It is a great honor for me to complete my coaching job here.”
For his part, President of the Polish Federation Cesare Kulesza confirmed: “The choice was difficult, but our choice fell on the best… The first goal is to qualify for the 2024 European Cup in Germany.
Santos, 68, will replace Czeslaw Mihnevich, who was sacked last month after Poland was eliminated from the World Cup final in Qatar.
On the other hand, Santos left his post after Portugal were eliminated in the Qatar 2022 World Cup quarter-finals at the hands of Morocco (0-1).
