Pochettino signs deal with Chelsea – Latest Football News

According to David Ornstein of AthleticChelsea have reached an agreement with Mauricio Pochettino, who is now set to take over as the Blues’ manager at the end of the season. Meanwhile, the former Southampton, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss will partner with acting boss Frank Lampard.

Chelsea have been looking for the right person for the job since Graham Potter’s sacking in April. They reportedly held talks with several candidates and at one point seriously considered former RB Leipzig and Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann, but negotiations ultimately fell through and they turned to Pochettino.

Chelsea have had an extremely difficult season despite pouring over €600m into their side in the last two transfer windows, breaking the Premier League record in the process by signing Enzo Fernandes from Benfica for €120m. They first parted ways with Thomas Tuchel and replaced him with Potter, but the former Brighton boss was also unimpressed. Consequently, the Blues will miss out on European football entirely next season and the appointment of Pochettino will no doubt be a good chance for a fresh start.
