David Beckham thanked Pele for his impact on football, while Harry Kane called the great Brazil a “true inspiration” after the death of the Selesao legend.

Israel’s Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo confirmed the death of the three-time world championship winner on Thursday after suffering from multiple organ failure.

The 82-year-old was battling health issues in the later stages of his life and his family traveled to join him before Christmas after he was transferred to palliative care after battling cancer.

Pelé remains an icon of the game and is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time, with former England star Beckham paying tribute to the former Santos striker.

“It was HIS beautiful game, thank you and goodbye. Rest in peace my friend,” Beckham wrote on Instagram.

England captain Kane was quick to wish the best during the World Cup in Qatar as reports of Pelé’s health continued to circulate.

The Tottenham striker has repeatedly referred to Pele as a benchmark for all strikers in the modern game, a sentiment he echoed on Twitter.

“Pelé was a true inspiration and one of the greatest players to ever play football. Rest in peace,” Kane wrote.

The Football Association of England (FA) also paid tribute by writing: “Everyone who loves football loves Pelé. His unique talent has illuminated the game and inspired the world.

“We think of his family, the Brazilian Football Confederation and the Brazilian people.”

In honor of the FA, the legendary arch of Wembley Stadium was lit up with Brazilian yellow and green light in honor of the legendary star.
