Today, Thursday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced in an official statement that the African Cup of Nations 2023 will be held from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire.

Côte d’Ivoire, Ivory Coast, will host the African Cup of Nations final for the second time in its history, having previously hosted the 1984 Cup which was crowned by Cameroon.

The Confederation of African Football has settled a dispute over the date of the African Cup of Nations involving 24 teams.

This will be the third edition in which 24 teams will take part in the final after Egypt 2019 and Cameroon 2021.

The tournament draw is scheduled for September 2023, with the date and venue to be confirmed at a later date.

CAF suffered from confusion over the agenda of its most important tournaments as it announced it would take place in the summer and implemented the offer at the tournament hosted by Egypt 4 years ago.

However, due to the climatic conditions typical of the African continent, the tournament was again held in the winter when Cameroon hosted it at the beginning of last year 2022.

Previously, the African Football Confederation announced that the Nations Cup would be played in odd-numbered years, and this proposal was applied in the 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 editions.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and a number of other events, the African Championship has returned again and will be held in even-numbered years, whether in 2022 or 2024.

The tournament will run for 4 weeks, 24 teams will take part in it, divided into 6 groups, 4 teams in each group.

The top two teams in each group, in addition to the top four teams finishing third in the six groups, advance to the round of 16.

6 teams have secured early qualification for the next African Cup of Nations in 2023, in addition to Côte d’Ivoire as the host country.

Morocco, Algeria, Senegal (reigning champions), Tunisia, South Africa and Burkina Faso advanced to the final of the tournament ahead of schedule, two rounds before the end of qualification.
