NYCFC midfielder Gudmundur Thórarinsson can’t be on the pitch today to captivate fans, so he’s turning to a various skill today– his voice.

A native of Iceland, Thórarinsson plays guitar and makes music when he’s not playing soccer. He wrote and launched a song on Thursday he hopes will lift soccer fans’ spirits during the coronavirus pandemic that has actually had a specifically ruthless influence on the New york city region.

“We are obviously all going through these tough times at the moment,” Thórarinsson stated. “This has been very difficult but we need to stay strong and stay safe. … Hopefully we will all see each other soon at the stadium.”

Thórarinsson, who joined NYCFC this year, first bent his off-the-field skill during an initiation custom for new club players in March. When he was asked to base on a chair and sing a song during a preseason team meal, the midfielder vocalized a performance of “So Sick” by Ne-Yo.

If there’s ever been a much better initiation song, we have not heard it.
