    The British Standard newspaper reported that Atsu was an ambassador for the charity Arms Around the Child, which aims to build a school in his native Ghana.

    A group of supporters said they wanted to express their gratitude to the former player, whose death was confirmed 12 days after the devastating earthquake.

    A spokesman for the association said: “Christian Atsu was a beloved figure in Tyneside and we hope to find a way for fans to show appreciation for his service to Newcastle Football Club and the area he lives in by raising money for the fantastic charity he has worked with.” “.
