MLS News: MLS: Chicharito scores as Galaxy suffer third consecutive defeat, Ruidiaz brace in Sounders victory

The LA Galaxy play-offs took a hit after suffering their third straight defeat, 2-1 to Real Salt Lake in the MLS on Wednesday.

Defeat means the Galaxy are winless in their last eight games and while they have dropped to sixth in the Western Conference, their form means they could find themselves just one point ahead of the post-season chasing pack.

Former Manchester United striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez hit RSL goalkeeper David Ochoa early, before Damir Kreilach scored his 11th goal of the season to put the hosts 1-0 at half time.

Ochoa denied Chicharito again on a fast break in the 57th minute, before the latter equalized with 14 minutes left in the week.

But in the fifth of six minutes of injury time, Anderson Julio unleashed a wonderful volley from outside the box to claim victory for the fifth-placed RSL and increase their play-off chances.

American teenager Ricardo Pepi scored his 12th goal of the season when Dallas in 10 men was defeated 3-1 by Western Conference contenders and Sporting Kansas City in second place.

Daniel Salloi scored twice for Sporting KC, bringing his season tally to 14, while Dallas sent Bryan Acosta off.

The Seattle Sounders remained at the forefront of the Western Conference, ahead of Sporting KC, while Raul Ruidiaz scored twice in a 3-1 away win against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Ruidiaz opened the scoring on 25 minutes, before shooting from the spot three minutes before half-time. The Peruvian has scored 16 goals in MLS this season, behind only DC United’s Ola Kamara with 17.

Dairon Asprilla scored the winning goal while the Portland Timbers won 2-1 at Los Angeles FC to remain fourth in the west.

Supporters’ Shield leader New England Revolution maintained his 14-point lead at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 4-1 away match to Montreal, extending his unbeaten streak to six games.

Nashville, second in the east, blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Orlando City, while DC United overtook Minnesota United 3-1.

Atlanta United boosted their play-off hopes with a 1-0 win over Inter Miami, who lost three straight losses, while Toronto beat FC Cincinnati 3-2.

New York City suffered their second consecutive defeat, losing 2-0 to the Chicago Fire, and Philadelphia Union only managed to draw 1-1 against the New York Red Bulls.

Colorado Rapids beat Austin 3-0 and Houston Dynamo drew goalless with Vancouver Whitecaps.
