MLS News: MLS: Atlanta takes down Orlando while Portland touches the ill-fated Vancouver

Atlanta United scored a critical win in their quest for the MLS playoffs, defeating Orlando City 3-0 on Friday to give Gonzalo Pineda his first win as head coach.

George Campbell took home the first goal in the 25th minute for his first MLS goal and Atlanta benefited from an own goal by Daryl Dike in the 38th minute.

Ezequiel Barco put an end to all suspense by scoring in the 72nd minute after catching a long ball and making his way sideways through the penalty area before shooting home with his right foot.

The emphatic victory leaves Atlanta level on points with DC United, who remain seventh in the Eastern Conference on goal difference.

In the Western Conference match, Portland beat Vancouver 1-0 thanks to an own goal by Ranko Veselinovic in the 66th minute.

Felipe Mora’s low shot from the right passed Vancouver goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau and headed into the net, but it was Veselinovic who arranged for him to arrive with a throw-away foul.

Portland overtook Minnesota and finished fifth in the conference with victory, while Vancouver remained just out of playoff position, one point behind Real Salt Lake.
