MLS MVP candidate Driussi signs long-term contract extension with Austin

Austin signed Sebastian Driussi to a long-term contract ahead of the 2023 Major League Soccer season.

Driussi joined Austin from Zenit in 2021 and has 30 goals and 12 more in 54 MLS appearances.

He finished second to Nashville’s Honey Mukhtar in MLS MVP with 25 goals last season.

Leeds United were among the teams linked with Driussi in January, but Austin secured the future of his talisman ahead of a new campaign they will start against St. Louis on 25 February.

“I am delighted to sign a new contract with the Austin,” Driussi said.

“This club and community made Austin feel right at home for me and my family. I have big ambitions here both personally and for the team and I am happy to work with my teammates, [coach] Josh [Wolff] and personnel to achieve them.

Driussi’s outstanding form helped Austin reach the Western Conference Finals in the MLS Cup Playoffs last season but lost 3-0 to eventual champions Los Angeles.

They finished second in the West in their second season in MLS.
