Milan drops points against Roma in Pioli’s game.

Stefano Pioli believes Milan lost two points against Roma despite Alexis Salemakers equalizing in the 97th minute at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

The Rossoneri came into the game from a Champions League spot but beat fifth-placed Roma by mere goal difference and it looked like the Giallorossi would overtake Pioli’s men as Tammy Abraham scored in the 94th minute to set up the first shot on target in a match.

But seconds before Roma’s big win, Salemakers turned around from a deep cross from Rafael Leao, breaking the hosts’ hearts and keeping Milan in the top four.

Despite his team drawing after death, Pioli still felt that Milan had lost two points and city rivals Inter were only three points behind and had a game in hand.

Asked if Roma had lost points, Pioli replied: “For us, too, it means that tonight we will all go home dissatisfied. This is not the result we wanted.

“We played well, we lacked the right decisions in the last 30 meters. Too bad we didn’t use situations. We knew the challenge was to unlock the match, but we didn’t succeed.”

Roma may have seen the all-important three points slip out of their hands with seconds left in the game, but head coach José Mourinho still praised his players’ efforts, telling reporters: “I’m sad, but I’m more proud than sad.

“Only we can do what we have done, only we, with all our limitations, only we, with all the players we have lost, can play this match against Milan. Milan have two teams, one on the field, the other on the bench. I don’t envy Pioli; he is always fair and nice to me.

“I’m very proud and I’m sure the Roma fans are going home like me, sad but proud.”
