Lionel Messi (35)’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on June 30, and there is a clause allowing an extra season to be extended until the summer of 2024, subject to the Argentine star’s approval.
In an interview with Telefoot, Luis Campos said: “At the moment we are negotiating with Messi for an extension. I can’t hide it. I would like him to be with us in this project and I would be happy if he continued.”
He added: “We are currently talking about trying to achieve this desired goal so that it continues with us.”
Paris Saint-Germain’s talks to extend Messi’s contract come at a time when the name was linked with a move to Saudi club Al-Hilal.
And press reports have indicated that the Saudi club is seeking to convince an Argentine magician with a salary that can reach 300 million euros a year to become the owner of the most expensive contract in the history of football.
Lionel Messi, who was crowned Qatar 2022 World Cup champion for Argentina, has made some 18 appearances in the French league this season, scoring 10 goals in addition to 10 assists.
