Luke Shaw has signed a new contract with Manchester United that will keep him active until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

The England international’s contract was due to expire at Old Trafford at the end of next season after the club extended his previous deal in December.

Shaw is in his ninth season at United and has been instrumental under Erik ten Hag in this campaign, appearing in 36 of 47 matches.

“Nine years ago I signed for this amazing club and I am very happy to extend my stay,” said the 27-year-old, who made 249 appearances for United.

“I have grown a lot since I came to Manchester many years ago, both as a person and as a player. I know what it takes to be successful in a club like this.

“We are at the beginning of our journey under the guidance of the coach and his coaching staff. We have already achieved success this season, but we want more.

“There is a great opportunity here to create something special, and I am going to give everything to be a part of it.”

Shaw won the Europa League and two EFL Cups in nearly a decade at United, joining from Southampton in June 2014 for a fee of around £30m.

United are also in early talks with longtime player David de Gea over new terms, while talks continue with Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot.

United director of football John Murtow said: “Luke is a very important player for the team and has grown into one of the best defenders in the world.

“He has been with the club for nearly a decade and understands the expectations of success as well as the hard work, commitment and high standards required to achieve it.

“He has added leadership to his other outstanding abilities and we all look forward to him wearing a United shirt in the coming years.”

United lost 2-0 to Newcastle United on Sunday, a potentially dangerous defeat in the top four race.

On Wednesday they will try to bounce back against Brentford.
