Journalist Pete O’Rourke said GimmeSport that Liverpool are interested in signing N’Golo Kante from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer transfer window. The French defensive midfielder has ended his contract with the Blues at the end of the season and the Reds are reportedly looking to bring him back to Anfield.
O’Rourke said: “They considered this deal hoping they could convince Kante to leave Chelsea on a free transfer. We are all aware of Liverpool’s need for a stronger midfield.
“It looks like Jurgen Klopp’s team has a lot of work to do to rebuild the engine room and Kante, with his experience and know-how, is the winner.
“Wherever he was, he was a great success. Getting someone as a free shuttle would be shrewd business.”
Kante has been with Chelsea since 2016, when he joined from Premier League rivals Leicester City. During his time at Stamford Bridge, the 31-year-old has won the Premier League title, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League once each.
