Barcelona head coach Xavi wants to sign a Brazilian teenager Andrik, who said he had held talks with the player and his father.

The 16-year-old Palmeiras forward is widely regarded as one of South American football’s most promising players, attracting the attention of some of Europe’s biggest teams.

Endrik’s father will reportedly travel to Spain to tour Real Madrid’s facilities later this month, but a fight for his services is expected and Barcelona’s own interest is currently being confirmed.

“We spoke to his father and also directly to the player. I talked about the project we have in Barcelona,” Xavi told ESPN.

“We need talent, and he is a talent that can make a difference. He can score goals, he can dribble, he has a brutal ability to make a difference.

“He is the kind of player we need. He already knows the project we have in Barcelona and we are talking.

“I hope he becomes our player. It depends on him. It always depends on the player. Usually the player ends up playing where they want to play. So it’s a very personal decision by Andrik.”

Although Andrik’s future lies outside of South America, any club wishing to sign him will not be able to transport him to Europe until he is 18 years old, in accordance with FIFA rules.
