Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak couldn’t remember what happened and will be monitored after suffering a “mild concussion” in Saturday’s 1-0 La Liga win over Athletic Bilbao.
Oblak was sent off in the 69th minute as part of a triple substitution with an apparent shoulder problem, with his replacement Ivo Grbic making some key late-stage saves at San Mames.
Atlético Madrid confirmed after the game that the Slovak goalkeeper had been substituted “because he suffered a mild concussion as well as a direct injury to his right shoulder”.
Atlético coach Diego Simeone added: “Ian didn’t remember much of what happened. I didn’t talk to him, but the doctor told me he didn’t remember anything.”
The club said that Oblak underwent a neurological examination after the game without any warning symptoms, but will be monitored by medical staff.
Oblak attempted to continue after what appeared at first to be a shoulder injury, but succumbed in the 69th minute.
Stopper has started eight of Atlético’s nine league matches this season, having suffered a hip injury in early September.
Jan Oblak fue sustituido por encontrarse ligeramente conmocionado y sufrir también un injury directo en el hombro derecho. El esloveno se mantendrá en observación por los servicios médicos del club.
