Alvaro Odriozola is the latest coronavirus positive Real Madrid player.
The 25-year-old is the third member of Madrid’s squad to contract the disease in the past eight days after Karim Benzema and new signing David Alaba also tested positive.
Odriozola played the full 90 minutes of Los Blancos’ 2-1 friendly defeat to Rangers in Glasgow last week, but is now self-isolating.
Real Madrid confirmed the news in a brief statement on their official website on Saturday, although they did not clarify whether the four-cap Spanish international was asymptomatic.
Odriozola, a product of the Real Sociedad academy, has played for Real Madrid 16 times in all seasons, including nine as a starter in La Liga.
With Dani Carvajal still in the running with a hamstring injury, Odriozola was vying to start the season as Real’s right-back.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side still have a pre-season friendly to play – against AC Milan in Austria on 8 August – before starting the Liga season against Alaves the following week.
