Ourélien Chouameni has denied rumors that he will be the new Paul Pogba and explained why he abandoned Paris Saint-Germain in favor of a move to Real Madrid.
Chuameni has emerged as another major French talent, prompting Real Madrid to poach him to Monaco’s Santiago Bernabéu for an €80m fee that could rise to €100m in June.
PSG are among the top European clubs that have also been looking to sign the midfielder, but he has already agreed to sign with the European champions.
Chuameni has been compared to France teammate Pogba, but the 22-year-old doesn’t want to hear those comparisons after making a name for himself.
He told Telefoot: “I’m not the new Pogba, I’m Aurélien Chuameni, I’m trying to write my own story. Pogba is a player I followed a lot when he was little and who I follow a lot. We play in the same position, but there is only one Pogba.”
Chuameni has said he has no intention of staying in his home country with PSG after he gave Madrid his word that he would move to the Spanish capital.
He added: “No, no, I didn’t hesitate with PSG. It is also a very big European club, but I have already decided to play for Real Madrid.

Chuameni has tough competition for a spot in Madrid’s midfield and knows he has to use his options.
“Regardless of the transfer price, there is always pressure at this club,” he said. “But I try to live up to expectations, do what I can on the field, and so far everything is going well.
“It was not me who was in the office to call my signature numbers. Is it so 80 [million Euros]60, 40… after all, when you come to Madrid and you’re in the starting lineup, you always have to play.”
Pogba is hopeful he will be a starter when Les Bleus tries to keep the World Cup in Qatar.
He said: “I try to contribute to the team, then if [N’Golo] Kante and Pogba are back, I will choose the manager and I will always do my best to be in the starting lineup.
“I think about the World Cup every day. I’ll try to score points with Real Madrid and then we’ll wait for the list.”
