LaLiga News: Barcelona to appeal after Lewandowski’s three-match La Liga ban

Barcelona are planning to appeal after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) suspended Robert Lewandowski for three matches for a red card against Osasuna.

Lewandowski received two yellow cards in the first half of Barça’s 2-1 victory over El Sadar last Tuesday, in which goals from Pedri and Rafinha helped Xavi’s team to a comeback win.

It was revealed on Wednesday that the RFEF had awarded Lewandowski a three-match long ban after accusing him of swearing at referee Gil Manzano after he was fired.

This would exclude Lewandowski, who is La Liga’s top scorer with 13 goals this campaign, from the Blaugrana’s matches against Espanyol, Atlético Madrid and Real Betis after the World Cup, but his club will try to reverse the decision.

The club said in a statement: “FC Barcelona will refer its case to the Appeals Committee due to a three-game suspension imposed on Robert Lewandowski by the Disciplinary Committee.

“The Polish striker has been suspended after being sent off for his second cautioned offence, in a 2-1 win over Osasuna in Pamplona in La Liga.”

Lewandowski is currently preparing to represent Poland in his second World Cup, while Czesław Mihniewicz’s team is due to start their Group C campaign against Mexico on Tuesday.
