Marco Asensio wants to stay at Real Madrid for another ’10 years’ as the Spanish international continues negotiations with the club for a new contract.
Asensio, who is on duty for La Roja in the World Cup, is set to become a free agent when his current contract with Los Blancos expires at the end of June.
Repeatedly linked with departures from the Santiago Bernabéu and Barcelona are reportedly among his possible destinations, the forward has only made one La Liga start for Real Madrid this season.
However, the 26-year-old is hopeful he can extend his stay with the reigning Champions League winners, for whom he has made 250 appearances since arriving from Mallorca in December 2014.
“There are rumors that I am changing the mind of Real Madrid. But I always tried to give all the best that I have inside, and then it will be known, ”he told Radio Marca.
“The decision is also taken by the club, it depends not only on me. After the World Cup we will both make a decision.
“What if I want to renew? I hope it can happen and I will be very happy at Real Madrid for many years to come. I hope everything will be given to stay another 10 years.”
Asensio also offered his condolences to teammate Karim Benzema, who was excluded from the World Cup after failing to recover from a left quadriceps problem.
The French international became the first reigning Ballon d’Or winner to miss the final since Allan Simonsen’s Denmark team failed to qualify for the 1978 tournament.
“I send him all my support and encouragement from here,” Asensio added. “These things happen in football and it weighs on his inability to reach 100 percent. He was very excited about this World Cup.”
