Manchester City are in talks with representatives of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, multiple sources say. It appears that things are moving in the right direction for the transition to take place. The 29-year-old Croatia international is believed to be on a list of players Chelsea could agree to sell this summer as they look to rebuild midfield under newly appointed manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Meanwhile, it looks like City will lose Ilkay Gundogan to a free transfer at the end of the month, with Bernardo Silva flagged as another potential departure. The proposed arrival of Kovacic will mitigate the loss of so much experience in the ranks of the Premier League champions.
Kovacic joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2018 on an initial one-season loan before becoming permanent a year later. He made 221 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, playing a major role in their success in the 2021 Champions League.
