While it can’t be called one of the most exciting leagues in the world, the German Bundesliga certainly did well over the weekend.
One such example is Leverkusen’s meeting with Bayern, when the hosts scored such a victory that can inspire self-confidence. Today we’re going to look at some of our biggest takeaways from the game.

We all know that VAR is considered to be quite a controversial topic in the world of football and it’s not hard to see why. In this game especially, it played a huge role in deciding the outcome. After losing 1:0, Leverkusen’s Amin Adli has been penalized twice for diving. However, on both occasions the decision was reversed, resulting in two penalties, with Exequiel Palacios scoring both of them to ensure the hosts walked away with all three points.

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso is currently the manager of Bayer Leverkusen. So this game was always going to be important to him, and it turned out to be. Under his leadership, the club managed to win five games in a row in all competitions. They are still in 8th place, but for the first time in a long time it really seems like there is real drive and purpose behind them.

As a result of the loss of points, Bayern Munich fell to 2nd place in the Bundesliga table. Their place at the top of the list is occupied by Borussia Dortmund, who beat Cologne 6-1 on Saturday. This is a moment that has been on the horizon for some time now and, frankly, we think it’s good for Bayern.
