Kane Seeks to Inspire Tottenham to Secure Top-Four Finish

Harry Kane rallied his Tottenham teammates by urging them to make the most of the remainder of the Premier League season as they aim to finish in the top four.

The Spurs were defeated by the Wolves on Saturday and a late shot from Adama Traore gave the hosts a 1-0 win at Molineux.

This left Tottenham, in what should be their last game under interim boss Christian Stellini before Antonio Conte returns from a forced sack, failing to score four points over fifth-placed Newcastle United, who lost with a score of 2:0. in Manchester City.

Combined with a shocking FA Cup exit to Championship side Sheffield United on Wednesday, Kane admitted it had been a difficult period, but the England captain backed up his teammates to change Spurs’ fortunes.

“It’s been a tough, really disappointing week,” he said. “All we can do is look ahead right now. We have 12 or 13 games to fight for a place in the top four.

“Games are coming fast and we have to look at the next one. If we had won today, we would have been in a good position with the last third of the season to play.

“[But] points will still be lost and we need to focus on ourselves and finish as strong as possible.”

In the meantime, Stellini has watched his interim helm end coolly, and he knows the Spurs have to be on top to turn their game into decisive results.

“It was a good performance. We started the game well,” Stellini told Sky Sports. “We had chances to score and we could have killed the game.

“It was a tough game, as we expected, but we were ready to challenge, fight, put on a great game. We missed a few chances in the first half and maybe things could have been different.”

On the fight to qualify for the Champions League, Stellini added: “It will be a tough race. We are not alone with Newcastle, other teams will come. We must be ready to play these games again.

“Maybe we should have more killer instinct to kill the game when you have the opportunity to do [so]. Everything was under control in the first half and we needed to kill him.”
