Joao Felix has role to play despite Atletico ´differences´, says Simeone

Joao Felix has a role to play at Atlético Madrid despite his “disagreements” with the club, says Diego Simeone, who expects the striker to give his all while staying at Los Colchoneros.

The Portugal international has been linked with leaving Metropolitano after he criticized Simeone’s methods at the World Cup earlier this month.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been linked with the 23-year-old, whose tally of 33 goals for Atlético since joining in 2019 is second only to Luis Suárez (34) during that period.

While Simeone hinted that Joao Felix’s exit is around the corner when he warned that “no one matters” last week, the Argentine says the striker must continue to do his part until a move is agreed upon.

“We have a good working relationship, despite some differences that can be between people. We cannot agree on everything,” Simeone said at a press conference on Wednesday.

“We have disagreements but I always look for the best for the club until the last day that I or the players are there.

“We get the most out of everyone until the last day that I or they are here.”

João Félix scored one goal and added two assists as Portugal reached the last eight in Qatar and his three-match World Cup goals total improved only by two Seleção teammates Bruno Fernandes with five and Gonzalo Ramos with four.

Simeone urged the striker to repeat this form ahead of Atlético’s return to the league against Elche, adding: “The team is important to me and he is important to the team.

“If he shows us what we saw at the World Cup, he will be very important. He has the conditions and the talent, and the team needs his qualities.”
