James to miss up to a month after knee injury setback

Scans show Reece James will be out for up to a month with a recent knee injury.

The Chelsea right-back returned to action against Bournemouth on Tuesday, having been out since October and missing out on England’s World Cup campaign.

But James held on for just over 50 minutes before falling again, clutching his knee.

Manager Graham Potter was “worried” about the injury sustained in the same spot as in the previous edition and Chelsea confirmed that James had failed.

“Defender Rhys James underwent a check-up earlier today after being substituted in the second half of yesterday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Bournemouth with a knee injury,” the statement released on Wednesday said.

“Scan results unfortunately confirmed the failure of the 23-year-old and Rhys will now be ruled out for up to a month.”

James previously tweeted describing his “toughest year to date”, stating that a painful end to 2022 is “naturally [affected] me mentally.”
