It’s official.. Barcelona women were excluded from the Copa del Rey despite beating Osasuna 9-0!

The Spanish Football Federation’s Competitions Committee announced on Tuesday Barcelona’s exclusion from the Copa del Rey for the 2022-23 season due to the inclusion of an unqualified player.

Barcelona reached the Copa del Rey final after beating Osasuna 9-0, with Catalan newcomer Jesse Ferreira scoring the fourth goal.

Osasuna filed a protest with the competition committee, claiming player Jesse Ferreira was ineligible because she received a red card with her former team in the last edition of the tournament.

And the official statement of the Spanish Football Federation confirmed that an administrative error was made in the final price of the cup draw in the Barcelona match against Osasuna, where Barcelona played Jesse Ferreira.

Accordingly, the decision was made to exclude Barcelona from the Copa del Rey due to the inclusion of an ineligible player and to accept the objection of Osasuna, who reached the quarter-finals.

Barcelona were also fined €1,001 and the Catalan club has 10 days to appeal the decision.

The decision was a major blow to Barcelona, who were looking forward to winning the Copa del Rey for the fourth consecutive season.

The Sevilla Women’s Club was also excluded from the competition because the team brought in an unqualified player against Villarreal in the final price round.

Now the competition will be wide open to win the Copa del Rey after Barcelona and Sevilla were knocked out.
