FIFA has received four statements of interest in hosting the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, including a joint bid from the United States and Mexico.
Brazil and South Africa have also submitted expressions of interest, along with another joint bid from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, with hosts due next May.
The US hosted the Women’s World Cup in 1999 and 2003, having won the previous championship, while Germany is the only potential host to host the competition previously, having done so in 2011.
The US and Mexico, along with Canada, are already poised to host the next Men’s World Cup in 2026.
Federations hoping to host the tournament have until May 19 to confirm their participation in the bidding process.
FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samura said: “We are delighted with the expressions of interest, not least because they come from member associations with a strong football tradition, representing four confederations, which confirms the continued popularity of women’s football around the world.
“All member associations can count on the most robust and comprehensive application process in the history of the Women’s World Cup.”
The 2023 tournament, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand, kicks off on July 20 with the Matildas taking on Ireland and their co-hosts taking on Norway on opening day.
