In-form Bees striker Toney could be fit to face Liverpool after injury all-clear

Fitted striker Ivan Tony could be ready for Brentford’s first Premier League game of the year against Liverpool on Monday.

There were fears Tony could face a lengthy absence after suffering a knee injury in Friday’s London derby in a 2-0 win over West Ham.

Tony was whisked away at the London stadium, but The Biz head coach Thomas Frank revealed on New Year’s Day that his top scorer might be available for a Reds visit.

The Dane said: “Good news with Ivan, the injury is minor.

“It could potentially be available tomorrow. Everything is fine with his knee. Without going into details, it’s something with the muscles.

“The physiologists explained the details and I completely forgot! I’m just glad it’s not serious.

Only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane have scored more goals than Toni (12 in the top flight) this season.

Former Newcastle frontman, Manchester City striker Haaland and Tottenham talisman Kane were the only three players to score at least 20 goals in the Premier League in 2022.

Tony has scored in both Brentford games since the World Cup break and has scored five goals in the last four matches.

The Football Association charged Toni with 30 more violations of the governing body’s betting rules last month, bringing the number of alleged violations to 262.
