Former national team player Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation, is accused of rigging league matches in his country.
And the French newspaper L’Equipe reported that Eto’o is accused of wooing a Cameroonian team to move from the second division to the first.
The newspaper indicated that Eto’o’s phone call with the Victoria United president was leaked on social media, in which the latter asked for his team’s help in promotion to the Premier League.
She added that Valentine Quine, president of the Cameroon club, asked to meet with Eto’o in a confidential interview.
And L’Equipe notes that Victoria United have already managed to jump from eighth to the top to qualify for the Cameroon Premier League.
On July 2, the Cameroon Football Federation announced the suspension of 24 referees for betting and match-fixing in league matches, as well as in futsal and beach soccer.
And the BSN Sports website indicated that Eto’o is under investigation after agreeing to be the betting company’s ambassador, which is contrary to the rules and laws of the International Football Association “FIFA”.
Samuel Eto’o, 42, has reportedly been the president of the Cameroon Football Federation since 2021, two years after he retired from football.
