Henry’s on-air mishap highlights American ignorance or mockery of English clubs

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry found himself in an awkward situation while analyzing the match between Lyon and Marseille in the 32nd round of the French Football League.

Henry was present at the Ligue 1 top-level debriefing via the Amazon Prime digital broadcast service, and the analytics studio interviewed American John Textor, owner of the Lyon Club, to talk about the meeting.

During the interview, the Lyon president turned to Henry to tell him: “I saw you play a little for this English team”, which of course meant Arsenal, where the former Dutch international spent his career in England.

Textor’s position, which looked like an attempt to belittle the London club, but it should not be overlooked that Americans are not very fond of football, despite the fact that the American businessman owns the Brazilian club Botafogo along with the French Lyon, but this is a pure investment.

Textor acquired a 77.49% stake in Lyon in December 2022 following the successful acquisition of 39.2 million shares in the prestigious French club.

On the other hand, Henry played 376 matches for Arsenal, during which he managed to score 228 goals, and he had little experience in Barcelona, Spain, while he ended his career with the American club New York Red Bulls.
