Italy coach Roberto Mancini has criticized the new system that will be applied at the next World Cup, starting with the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico.

Under the new system, teams will be divided into 12 groups of 4 teams, on the condition that the first and second from each group, in addition to the top 8 teams finishing third in their groups, advance to the 1/8 finals.

The semi-finalists will also play eight matches instead of seven, as was the case at the last World Cup.

Mancini has a contract with the Italian federation until 2026, when the World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

It is noteworthy that the Azzurri team missed the last two stages of the World Cup in 2018 in Russia and 2022 in Qatar.
