Guardiola Ridicules Messi over Haaland Controversy

Spanish manager Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, mocked the news of his replacement, Norwegian star Erling Haaland, in front of Leipzig in a meeting that brought them together in the Champions League to defend Messi, his former player’s record.

Manchester City managed a convincing win at the expense of their guest Burnley 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup quarter-finals last night, Saturday.

The Norwegian star was able to score 3 goals in Man City’s victory in yesterday’s match and it came just 4 days after he scored a five-goal goal against Leipzig.

Guardiola replaced Haaland in the 63rd minute and robbed him of his goal scoring increase, leading some to interpret the decision as the manager didn’t want the Norwegian to smash Argentine star Lionel Messi’s number in a similar five-year-old against Bayer Leverkusen under his management in Barcelona in 2012.

Guardiola repeated the question after Erling’s substitution and in yesterday’s match, prompting journalists to ask him after the match about the secret of the player’s substitution against Burnley, and he sarcastically replied: “So that he doesn’t break Messi’s number!”

And about Haaland’s brilliance and the fact that he scored 8 goals in two matches, Guardiola commented: “Incredible! I played for Barcelona for 11 years and only scored 11 goals.
