    Gremio sign Uruguay striker Suarez

Luis Suarez signed a two-year contract with the Brazilian club Gremio.

The Uruguayan striker has been a free agent since leaving Nacional, where he spent his childhood, and will continue his career in Brazil.

Suarez was scouted by the Mexican club Cruz Azul, but Gremio won the race due to his signature.

Gremio Porto Alegre confirmed the signing of the 35-year-old on New Year’s Eve.

Suárez helped Nacional win the Primera Division title after returning home after leaving Atlético Madrid.

The veteran won four La Liga titles during a highly successful spell with Barcelona and won another title with Atlético in the 2020–21 season.

He also lifted the Champions League trophy at Barça in 2015.

Suárez won the Copa América with Uruguay in 2011 and is his country’s all-time leading scorer with 68 goals in 137 games, although he failed to score during their recent Qatar 2022 World Cup campaign.
