Giannis Antetokounmpo Invests in MLS Nashville SC

Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers are among the new minority investors who will acquire a stake in Major League Soccer club Nashville SC.

The two-time NBA MVP, along with his Milwaukee Bucks teammate Thanasis and fellow siblings Kostas and Alex, became the latest sports stars to buy MLS clothing for themselves.

The terms of the package acquired by the quartet, which was joined by Nashville Predators forward Philip Forsberg, who became an investor in the Tennessee franchise, were not disclosed.

In a statement, Giannis confirmed that he is thrilled to be joining a team that finished fifth in the Western Conference last season before advancing from the first round of the playoffs to Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS Cup.

“My father was a professional footballer and that was the first sport I fell in love with in Greece,” he told ESPN.

“It has always been my dream to own a football team. As my brothers and I explored Nashville, South Carolina, we knew this was the team and city we wanted to work with.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Boys in Gold and can’t wait to come to the match at GEODIS Park soon.”

The Antetokounmpo and Forsberg brothers joined previous big investors in Nashville, including actress Reese Witherspoon and Tennessee runner Derrick Henry.

Other famous athletes betting on MLS equipment include Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, who owns a five percent stake in the Philadelphia Union.

Philadelphia 76ers player James Harden is also a minority investor in the Houston Dynamo, while Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has a stake in the Seattle Sounders.
