Galatasaray are aiming to sign Roma striker Nicolo Zaniolo in the final days of the Turkish transfer window, coach Okan Buruk has confirmed.
Amid interest from Serie A champions AC Milan, Zaniolo announced his desire to leave Roma last month, but the Italian has angered the club’s hierarchy by turning down a lucrative move to Bournemouth.
José Mourinho described the possibility of Zaniolo staying at Roma as “unfortunate” just before the window closed for most European clubs, but the 23-year-old could still complete the move.
Amid reports that Galatasaray are in talks to secure a deal worth more than 22 million euros for Zaniolo, Buruk praised the Italian.
“Zaniolo is a world class player,” Buruk said after Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory over Trabzonspor on Sunday.
“This is a player that we would like to see in the squad, even if we do not know exactly his relationship with Roma.
“But if you ask me: “Do you want to see him in the team?” Of course I would like to have it.”
