The Russian Football Union announced that the friendly matches played by the national team against Iran and Iraq in March this year will be counted in the new FIFA classification.
The Russian Football Union told the TASS news agency on Monday that “the matches of the Russian team against Iran and Iraq will be taken into account in the FIFA classification.”
On March 23, the Russian team played in Tehran with the Iranian team, in a match that ended in a positive draw with a goal for both sides.
And on March 26, the Russian team defeated their Iraqi counterpart with two clean goals at the Gazprom Arena stadium in St. Petersburg, in the first match that the Russians played at home since November 2021.
It is noteworthy that the Russian team took 37th place in the latest FIFA ranking, which was announced at the end of 2022.
