The Iraqi Football Association announced on Wednesday the date of the friendly match between the Lions of Mesopotamia and their Russian counterpart, which will take place in the Russian city of Sochi on March 27.
An official statement from the Iraqi federation states: “It has been agreed that the Iraqi national team will play an international friendly match against their Russian counterpart in Sochi on the 27th of this month.”
The statement added: “This match is taking place as part of the preparation of the Iraqi national team for the upcoming international competitions, and the match is preceded by the establishment of a training camp, which will begin on the 21st of the same month and will be held in the Russian city itself.”
This is the first friendly match for Iraq since winning the 25th Persian Gulf Cup in Basra last January.
It became known that the coaching staff of the Iraqi national team led by the Spaniard Jesús Casas will return to Baghdad in the middle of this month, after the end of his current vacation in Madrid.
