Despite skirmishes, Russia honors Iraqi delegation

The Russian national team defeated the Iraqi guest with two unanswered goals in a friendly international football match that brought them together today, Sunday, at the Gazprom Arena stadium in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

The hosts’ goals were scored by Anton Miranchuk and Sergei Benyaev in the 50th and 58th minutes, respectively.

The Russian national team finished the match with ten men after the referee of the international arena Akhror Raskolaev announced a red card right in the face of midfielder Daler Kozyaev at the estimated time instead of losing due to a skirmish with an Iraqi player.

The Russian national team, having beaten their Iraqi counterpart, achieved their first victory after three consecutive goalless draws with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, in addition to their latest positive draw with the Iranian hosts (1:1) in the international friendly match that brought them together last Thursday in the capital Tehran.
