Despite Arsenal’s Interest, Liverpool Maintains Lead in the Mount Race

Liverpool are still in a winning position to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano, despite Premier League leaders Arsenal have also expressed interest in England’s services.

Liverpool intend to seriously strengthen their positions in midfield. Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham was their No. 1 target for a long time, but they eventually withdrew from the race, finding the 19-year-old too expensive given their many needs in the transfer market. Mount was named as one of the club’s alternatives, along with the likes of Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, as well as Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberh.

Arsenal are also expected to try to sign Caicedo after failing on that front in January.

Mount is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and there have been no moves on a potential new deal at this point. If this remains in place at the end of the season and the 24-year-old decides to leave, they will likely authorize a sale at the correct price.
