Danjuma signed with Tottenham after Spurs stole Everton

Arnaut Danjuma joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan until the end of the season after the north London club intercepted the signing of the Villarreal striker from Everton.

Danjuma, who were relegated from the Premier League with Bournemouth in 2020, looked set to join Everton.

Stats Perform understands that Everton, who sacked Frank Lampard on Monday, expected Danjuma to arrive at their Finch Farm training ground to complete the formalities of his move on Tuesday. He has already been treated at the Merseyside club.

However, with the deal paperwork left unfinished, Spurs have taken the final step in favor of the Netherlands national team, who have decided to join Antonio Conte’s men in their fight for Champions League qualification.

Danjuma, whose move is subject to international clearance, will rival Son Heung-min, Dejan Kuluszewski and former Everton talisman Richarlison in attack as Spurs look to break into the top four.

The 25-year-old has been a regular goal threat since joining Villarreal in 2021, scoring 22 goals in 51 appearances for the Yellow Submarine.

Since the start of last season, Danjuma has become one of only two La Liga players (Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior) to score in double figures with both his left (10) and right (12) feet in all competitions.

Danjuma’s decision to join Spurs represents another blow to the crisis club Everton, who have been linked with Marcelo Bielsa, Ralph Hasenhutl and Sean Dyche in their search for Lampard’s successor.

In the meantime, Tottenham are looking to make further additions to what’s left of the transfer window, with Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro reportedly being targeted.
