Matt Doherty believes Tottenham should stick with Antonio Conte despite his outburst after Spurs’ 3-3 draw at Southampton.
Conte lashed out at his players as well as Tottenham’s owners after his team conceded a two-goal lead on the final leg of Saturday’s trip to St Mary’s.
Spurs are now expected to part ways with the former Inter, Chelsea and Juventus manager during the international break.
However, Doherty, who left Spurs in January to join Atlético Madrid, urged the club to support Conte, whom he described as “one of the best managers of all time”.
At a press conference, the Republic of Ireland defender said: “I hope he stays at Tottenham for a long time.
“He is an incredible coach, an incredible manager. He won’t say anything to the press that he wouldn’t say to his players, he’s completely honest with his players, he has a passion for the whole club.
“I hope Tottenham stay with him for as long as possible, he is one of the best managers of all time.”

Doherty’s comments appear to contrast with those of his former teammate Pierre-Émile Hojbjerg, who asked his manager to “clarify” the Italian’s comments after the Southampton game.
Hojbjerg said: “I understand that if you want to succeed as a team, you need 11 people committed to the cause and the culture. But I think he needs to go into detail about his feelings before you, as a player, can start measuring and weighing.
“The coach was not satisfied and this is what I will take with me.
You do everything in your power to please him. What I know about myself is that I am an honest player. I am a player who always gives 100 percent of himself to the team.”
