Chelsea signs Bettinelli for an extension until 2026

Marcus Bettinelli has linked his future with Chelsea after signing a new contract with the Premier League club.

The goalkeeper has signed on to extend his existing contract, keeping him with the Blues until 2026.

Bettinelli has mostly served as a backup for Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy since joining Chelsea from West London rivals Fulham in 2021.

The 30-year-old made his first appearance for the Blues during their 5-1 win over Chesterfield in the FA Cup last season.

However, he is very happy to extend his stay next to Graham Potter.

“I’m honored to be at a club like Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he said on the club’s official website. “A couple of years ago, when I signed the contract, I was glad to be here, glad to sign the contract.

“Being here now and seeing the club go through this transition and seeing what we are developing is amazing to be a part of that and I am very excited to be here for a couple more years.”

Chelsea return to the Premier League after the international break when they host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Blues are 10th on the table with 11 games to go and 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.
